How do i not sound shallow about my oriental features?

I have the typical asian or korean eyes. No double eyelid and in about a year I’m getting the double eyelid surgery or blepharoplasty. I’m very open about it. But when i tell them I want it they ask me why I want to look more westernized or ‘white’. I used to tell them that I only got them because it was a lacking. Everyone had it but me. I told them its as common as braces in korea but they still won’t understand and they just think I’m shallow. how do i explain it to them?
